Lalit Shah passed away surrounded by his family in June 2024. He was the beloved patriarch of his family, an esteemed accountant ๐งฎ whose dedication to his clients was well known and a friend to all who were blessed to know him.
Lalit was born in Bombay, India and married the love ๐ฅฐ of his life [*****]. They ventured to the United States with only the possessions they could carry in a suitcase ๐งณ, eight dollars ๐ฒ and a vision of realizing the American dream.
Before coming to America, Lalit graduated from a distinguished college where he specialized in commerce and economics and took the Chartered Accountant exam, earning one of the top scores in India. After immigrating, he worked as a busboy and spent late nights educating himself and earning an accounting degree and an MBA. He worked for a Fortune 500 company and a local accounting firm in Rochester, New York, before starting his own accounting business in Penfield. He established a thriving business in Western New York and built a devoted client base who continued to see him even when they moved away. He had clients in almost every state. Truly, Lalit was such a people person. There was hardly a place you could go in Rochester without running into someone who knew him.
Lalit enjoyed all aspects of life. He loved food, celebrating with friends and family, and providing advice and services to his clients, many of whom became close friends. He had a smile ๐ and joy that was infectious to all those around him. He considered the success of his family to be his greatest achievement. He was immensely proud of his two sons - Neeraj, who became a Certified Public Accountant and Attorney and founded his own businesses Shah CPA Firm, PLLC and Shah Law Firm, PLLC, and Neeral, who became a physician, educator and Professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He loved his family above all and his eyes lit up anytime he had the chance to talk about his grandchildren. Lalit leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and professionalism that will continue to inspire future generations.
Lalit leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife [*****] โค๏ธ, his sons Neeraj [*****] ๐๐งก and Neeral [*****] ๐๐งก and the greatest joys of his life, his โlucky charms ๐โ - his five grandchildren [*****] ๐๐๐๐๐.
Lalit offered Michchhami Dukkadam ๐ to all. (This is a Jain expression that means that he is asking for forgiveness from you, and that you forgive him for anything he may have done to hurt you, knowingly or unknowingly.)
Funeral and cremation services will be a private ceremony for family only. No other services are planned.
This Jain stavan resonates with me. It's about a bird ๐ฆ that comes and flies away. Before leaving, it helps explain a nice thought that's been spinning in my head. A beautiful peaceful ๐ song that reminds me of you, dad. โค๏ธ
I grant forgiveness to all living beings,
May all living beings grant me forgiveness.
My friendship is with all living beings,
My enmity is totally non-existent.
Let there be peace, harmony and prosperity for all.
